Business Meeting Report/Minutes
NIH Meeting – Hosted by Suburban Hospital
Tuesday, May 21, 2013

The meeting was called to order by Dr. Maral Skelsey at 6:35 p.m.

Dr. Skelsey thanked Dr. John DiGiovanna, the NIH speakers and Suburban staff for hosting the meeting.

I.   Minutes from the Thursday, January 17, 2013 meeting were approved unanimously.

II. Committee Reports

  • a –  Advocacy Committee –  No updates
  • b – Social Committee –  No updates
  • c – Treasurer’s Report – s/p Atlantic Dermatology Conference – net assets approx $670,00.00. Details available upon request.
  • d – Adhoc Membership Committee – Dr. Steve Krivda noted that they have contacted a subset of listed members who have not paid dues and many of them stated that since moving to email contact they had lost contact with DC Derm Society. An effort will be made to update correct emails and provide personal contact with wayward members.

III. Old Business

  • 90th Atlantic Dermatological Conference April 12-14, 2013 – was a great success. Dr. Skelsey thanked all who were involved in organizing and running the meeting.

IV.  New Business

  • a – Voting on new candidates for membership – Dr. Gulson Erdag and Dr. Jennifer Reese was completed and both were approved unanimously. They will become members once their dues are received.
  • b – New membership application were presented – Terrence Keaney, M.D., Tania Peters M.D., and Sherry L.H. Maragh, M.D. – They will be voted on at the next meeting.
  • c – THEARC Partnership was briefly discussed by Dr. Skelsey. The partnership offers DC Derm members a way to provide much needed dermatologic care to underserved children in Anacostia. Members can volunteer one Saturday morning per year if they have a DC medical license. Malpractice insurance is provided by Children’s National Medical Center. Members should apply for privileges at CNMC if they wish to volunteer. Direct questions to Drs. Maral Skelsey or Scott Norton
  • d – AAD Teledermatology Volunteer Program discussion was delayed until the next meeting when Dr. Scott Norton can present.
  • e – Voting on the 2013 Budget Addendum (attached) and Bylaw changes 1) Annual dues for new applicants will be waived during their first three years after training 2) Atlantic Dermatological Conference fees will waived for all dermatology residents when the DC Dermatological Society hosts the conference. Much debate ensued. Both the Budget Addendum and Bylaw changes passed.

Next Meeting – September 2013 at Washington Hospital Center – date TBA

The meeting was adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
