Letter from the 2020-2021 President

Dear Dermatology Colleagues,

I am honored to lead the Washington DC Dermatologic Society for the 2020-21 academic year. This year, like last year, will be very different for our organization. We have discussed meetings with the department leaders at our local institutions and have decided to hold virtual meetings until it is safe to meet in person. We as a society are committed to providing excellent meetings and learning opportunities for our colleagues.

Dr. Yasmine Kirkorian, our outgoing president, should be commended for her outstanding leadership during the 2019-20 academic year. Not only did she lead our society through the start of a global pandemic, she chaired the Atlantic Dermatology meeting and quickly pivoted from a live meeting to a virtual platform. This took an enormous amount of dedication and grit. Thank you, Yasmine for all of your hard work.

We have confirmed three virtual meetings for the year:

  • Medstar Georgetown University: Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 6:00pm
  • George Washington University: Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 6pm
  • Howard University: Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 6pm

We will continuously monitor the pandemic and if it is safe to meet in person, we will add a social event for members and the Resident Presentation Competition to the schedule at the end of the year.

I look forward to serving as your president this year and welcome your suggestions to improve our society. Because this year is very different from any other year, please do not hesitate to contact me, Saurabh or Hyland with any ideas to improve our society.

Sincerely,
Samantha A. Toerge, MD, FAAD
