President’s Welcome

August 2016

Dear Dermatology Colleagues,

I am honored to lead the Washington DC Dermatologic Society for the 2016-2017 academic year. It is my pleasure to welcome new and returning members. Once again, we will offer many outstanding continuing medical education and professional opportunities. Kelly Redbord, our outgoing president, did an amazing job to reinvigorate the membership and represent DC at the legislative conference. Kelly also instituted the Resident Case Presentation Competition, which was a welcomed and well-received event that will continue this year!

We have already confirmed excellent and exciting speakers for the 1st half of the year:
September 2016 – Dr .Grant Anhalt, professor of dermatology, Johns Hopkins University, will be speaking on blistering disorders.
October 2016 – Dr. Barbara Gilchrest, former Chair and Professor, Boston University, will be speaking on vitamin D and the skin.
December 2016 – Dr. Isaac Brownell, Dermatology Branch, NCI, will be speaking on Merkel Cell Carcinoma.

We also welcome the GW program and they will be hosting a DC dermatology event in the Spring of 2017. In addition, this year Dr. Rebat Halder will be hosting the John Kenney MD, named lecture at the Howard DC dermatology event also in the Spring of 2017. And finally, the year will end with the tradition of the “NIH Talks” in June of 2017. As a society, we are extremely fortunate to have access to the NIH for both academic endeavors and also as a world-renowned resource for our patients with rare, complex, and sometimes undefined skin disease.

Our society is full of members who promote good will in our communities. We plan to solicit nominations to select a member who has volunteered their time in serving the underserved and recognize this member and hopefully inspire others to do the same, especially the outgoing residents.

I look forward to serving as your president this year and welcome your suggestions to improve our society. Please do not hesitate to contact me, Ali or Florecnia, with any comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Suraj Venna
