Business Meeting Report/Minutes

Saturday, October 27, 2012

The meeting was called to order by Dr. Maral Skelsey at 9:39 a.m.

I  Minutes from the Tuesday, September 11th, 2012 meeting were approved unanimously.

II. Committee Reports

  1. Audit Committee – Per the DC Derm Constitution and By-Laws this committee formed by Dr. Julie Henry and Dr. Robert Silverman will meet in 2 weeks and review all the financial receipts/disbursements/reports of the last two years.
  2. Advocacy Committee – Dr. Kelley Redbord who serves with the American Academy Dermatology Association discussed advocating for our specialty at the grassroots and national level. She is looking for dermatologists who want to get involved in the DC/MD/VA area. Please contact her to volunteer or to bring issues to her attention.
  3. Social Committee – Dr. Paul Kravitz gave a short history of this committee that has been dormant for several years. This committee historically helped boost morale with entertaining events such as the annual Square Dance gathering in the late 1970’s. Dr. Ben Lockshin will now chair this committee and he is looking for event ideas – please contact him with suggestions.
  4. Treasurer’s Report – The proposed 2012/13 budget (attached) was distributed, reviewed and approved unanimously by the membership.

III. Old Business

  1. Membership Dues – The society budget had a shortfall of $5,000 last year and expenditures are increasing – example new $2,500 fee per year for CME accreditation. Therefore, it was proposed at the September, 2012 meeting that annual individual dues be increased to $200.00 per year. This proposal was voted on by the membership and approved unanimously.
  2. 90th Atlantic Dermatological Conference April 12-14, 2013. Preparations for the meeting are ongoing.
  3. Dr. Sabrina Newman Chair of the Clinical Committee made a final call for interesting cases to be presented at the ADC. Please contact her if you have one (202-341-2418).

IV.  New Business

  1. Voting on new candidates for membership  (Dr. Kenneth Neal  and Dr. Dave Bray)was postponed until the next meeting due to clerical issues.

Dr. Skelsey thanked Dr. Amir Bajoghli for chairing todays conference and all the members who assisted in preparing and presenting todays cases. She also thanked Dr. Kenneth Greer, Professor of Dermatology, University of Virginia, for speaking on “Interesting Cases from Virginia”.
Next Meeting – DC DERM Day – Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland on Friday, November, 16th, 12:00 – 4:30 p.m. Please bring a picture ID to present at the gate.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
